Start 2016 Rite

I’ve always loved the ending of Paradise Lost.  And not just because it’s an achievement to have slogged through ten thousands lines of Milton’s verse to get there!  There’s something so poignant about the evicted Adam and Eve drying their tears and setting off on their journey to found the human race.

They hand in hand with wandering steps and slow,
Through Eden took their solitarie way

Notice, Adam and Eve don’t dash off to tackle their task as we might. They don’t get busy with to-do lists or New Year’s Resolutions. They wander – slowly – curious about what’s around and ahead of them.  Like those innocent Start-Rite kids in the iconic poster tottering towards a beckoning horizon on perfectly fitted shoes, the ‘world was all before them’ says Milton and they discover it at walking pace.

I love that.

It’s probably why I am so am excited about our street-based, urban inspiration venture Street Wisdom and how it gives busy 21st century types all over the world (…18 countries and counting) an everyday format to become curious again.

It’s certainly why we created Winter Wanderland, a 31-day experience we’ve designed that turns the whole of January into a month-long exploration of your own future direction.

I’ll be doing it.  So will the gang at Street Wisdom.  I’d love you to join us.

It’s simple.  You sign up, make a small donation and you’re set. Every day you’ll receive an SMS with an instruction (really a prompt) to follow. It’ll be something you can do on the street in a few minutes. So it will fit into your schedule whether you’re on your way to or from work, shopping or hanging out at the weekend. Don’t worry if you miss the start, you can join whenever you want. But every day the instructions are more challenging and intriguing so the sooner you begin, the better.

The world is all before us, as Milton says. This is a wanderful way to set your personal compass for a wonderful 2016.    So let’s start well or as those other great poets, the Start Rite kids might have said…Well Begun is Half Done.

  1. For 2016–May you continue to be the fountain of creativity and warmth that you are each year.
I want to go on the journey, but don’t have a UK phone number. Too bad. Good luck with it.
    Much affection.

    • Bev, it’s lovely to hear from you. Sorry you can’t join Winter Wanderland this year. But hopefully next year we’ll be more global. Jo, Elsa, Zach and I are just heading to NYC for two days on our way back to UK from Detroit (seeing Jo’s parents). The kids have never been before. So, very excited. First stop tomorrow morning – Katz Delicatessen! I didn’t let you know because I didn’t want to intrude on your holidays. I haven’t forgotten the idea of coming for Passover one year though. The Hyman seder sounds like a one-off experience that must be had once at least in a lifetime! Hope you’re well. Lots of love. D

  2. I ad mire your continued stand on human rights and friendship. Good luck to all the family and please keep in touch
